e-Prescribing System Integrated Into CareFlow Student Health Records:
Available to all providers capable of prescribing medications to students. Helps avoid medication errors and saves time.

West Chester, PA– April 2015– CareFlow Student Health Records today announced the launch of its e-prescribing system for eligible care providers. CareFlow now offers care providers the ability to electronically transmit prescriptions to pharmacies at no cost.
“e-Prescribing will save our providers a ton of time and prevent medication errors. There are an estimated 1.5 million medication errors each year in the US and that is an unacceptable situation. e-Prescribing has proven repeatedly to reduce medication errors as well as streamline efficiency,” said Brian Biddulph-Krentar, CEO of CareFlow.

About CareFlow
CareFlow is a student health records solution that is easy-to-learn, easy-to-deploy, and is delivered at the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership. It automates and streamlines the enrollment process for both parents and school personnel, saving time and improving data accuracy. As a secure, web-based application, you can easily access and share information confidentially. Our mobile access capabilities ensure school nurses, athletic trainers, coaches, teachers, chaperones, and administrators can document or access student visits, treatments and medication administration, and stay up-to-date and in-synch regarding each student’s medical condition.

About e-Prescribing
e-Prescribing refers to the electronic transmission of prescriptions to pharmacies by verified medical providers. e-Prescribing is a centerpiece of Health and Human Services “Meaningful Use” criteria for eligible providers to receive $44,000+ in HITECH stimulus incentives.

About Medication Errors
There are at least 1.5 million preventable Adverse Drug Events (ADEs) in the US each year according to a 2006 Institute of Medicine report. These adverse events include patients sickened, injured or killed by errors in prescribing, dispensing or taking medications. In a January 2009 speech, then-President-elect Barack Obama said EHR technology, including e-prescribing, will “save lives by reducing the deadly but preventable medical errors that pervade our health-care system.”

CareFlow joins NASN & NASSNC board to create uniform school health data set.

NASN and NASSNC CareFlow will be a part of a national board for the NASN that has the goal of standardizing the collection of student health data and establishing a “National School Nursing Data Set to identify variables that all school nurses would collect.” School nurses collect voluminous amounts of data in a variety of ways and use the data to describe trends in students’ health, patterns of illness in the student population or to identify ways to improve care. NASN identified years ago that a national school nurse data set was needed to enable data driven decision making for the millions of children who attend school each day across the United States. Our group is tasked with developing a uniform data set that all school nurses can collect. Collecting data, and collecting it the same way as other providers will demonstrate what school nurses do, as well as provide the data necessary for robust research on the impact of school nurses students’ health.
