Large Maryland-based Pk-12 Independent School Improves Compliance and Emergency Access through Partnership with CareFlow
Glenelg Country School, an independent co-educational school in Ellicott City, Maryland, realized they were not handling their emergency care information for their students in the most efficient way and wanted an easier way to communicate this information between divisions, all while making the required annual collection of information for their parent population easier.

Bill Pickett, Chief Information Officer at Glenelg Country School and Deb Dettmer, Head Nurse, worked with the School’s health staff and physical trainer to seek a solution that would solve their fragmented process of collecting and managing their emergency care information for their students.

Large Co-Ed Independent School Finds Success using CareFlow’s Online Back-to-School forms for parents, health center charting, and athletic trainer injury tracking modules.
St. John’s School, a prestigious private co-ed independent school in Houston, Texas, discovered a critical business issue within their health center that needed to be addressed for the 2013/14 school year. St. John’s was dealing with a common issue that many schools face on an annual basis: parents mailing paper health forms to the school nurse during the summer months and beginning of the school year…

After researching many solutions, St. John’s chose CareFlow as their electronic student health records solution. When asked why CareFlow was chosen, St. John’s stated that CareFlow seemed to match their needs the most. CareFlow was partners with their student information system, WhippleHill, making the first steps to integrate student data into CareFlow a smooth process. CareFlow then brought new functionality to the school nurse, athletic trainers, and school counselors where they can now share information and track visits all within CareFlow, staying HIPAA and FERPA compliant.

From early learning to college and career readiness, from advanced placement courses to theater program awards, Mount Vernon Presbyterian School sets the standard for independent school education in Georgia.
Established in 1972, this private school prides itself on innovation and strives to stay up on new technology. However, they found their web-based student information system (SIS) lacking in integration ability. In the words of Chief Technology Officer Mikey Canup, their old SIS “did not play well with others.” Previously, Mount Vernon used a paper-based system for their student health data. Because of this, faculty had little insight into trends in injuries or illnesses within the school…

For parents, the benefit of PowerSchool and CareFlow over their previous SIS and processes is substantial. Canup has noticed there are less parent complaints. “On our previous system, it was a constant battle getting the parents comfortable with using it. There was a lot of training involved. With PowerSchool and CareFlow, after sending an initial email to parents, we’ve been able to focus more on our data’s accuracy and less on training and troubleshooting.” In addition, the combined solution allows parents to enjoy peace of mind that their child’s medical data is secure and up-to-date. “CareFlow is going to help us grow and offer us more things down the road,” Canup continues. By adapting to changes in educational technology, Mount Vernon feels assured that their partnership with CareFlow will benefit them well into the future.
